Tracy Nicole is more than just your ordinary woman juggling numerous hats… Tracy is a mom, designer, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist. As Ms. Nicole’s interns, we took a day to sit down to ask her a few questions about her everyday life. This is what we learned…
// What was the first job you had after college?
Tracy: I was a temp legal assistant for a big time law firm — while studying to take my state board license exam so that I could practice Occupational Therapy.
// How do you start your day?
Tracy: I start my day by meditating. I wake up and reflect on all of the things that I am grateful for and I thank God every morning for it. Then I listen to something motivational. It could be a video or simply some music to get me going! I learned from Oprah — she calls it “Starting Your Day With Gratitude”. That is how I start my day.
// What’s something that keeps you motivated?
Tracy: My children keeps me motivated. I also enjoy motivational videos. My vision keeps me motivated — I always stay focused on where it is I am going. I absolutely love listening to my music to keep the motivation going. I listen to all types of music.
// Are you named after anyone?
Tracy: My doctor actually named me. He didn’t like the name my mom was going to name me so he named me Tracy Nicole. My mom wanted to name me Torin (Tor-in). My doctor said Torin sounded like a horror movie.
// What’s your favorite part about being a mom?
Tracy: Being a mom has taught me the true definition of unconditional love. It is hands down the most rewarding experience of my life and my reason for being. Being a mom pushes me to consistently be a better person overall.
// Do you consider yourself to be a morning person?
Tracy: I am not a morning person at all! Morning people are always like “Hi! Good Morning! Would you like a cup of coffee?” *laughs* I have to be a morning person because of my girls so I push myself every single morning!
// Where have you traveled outside of the U.S.?
- Rome, Italy
- Florence, Italy
- Venice, Italy
- Athens, Greece
- Santorini, Greece
- Mykonos, Greece
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
- St. Lucia
- Island of Tortola
- Virgin Gorda
- St. Thomas
// What is something you would like to accomplish that you have not accomplished already?
Tracy: I definitely want to publish another book, become NY Times Bestseller, write a movie for the big screen, become a billionaire, and live abroad for an extended period of time.
// Name something that you find interesting that may shock someone?
Tracy: Being a Daredevil. I love an adventure! My scariest experience was jumping out of an airplane. Every country I visit I manage to find a cliff to jump off of.
// What is a question that people always ask you?
Tracy: How do I do it? Where do I get my ideas from? What am I mixed with? I would have to say that first question I really never have an answer to. I don’t ever stop to think about how I do it… I just do it. I think I would get over whelmed and fall apart if I stop to think about it. I get my ideas from every aspect of my life… from people watching when I travel to the creative juices flowing when I listen to music. I truly have more ideas than time. That last question, well, I am all mixed up with a little of everything. LOL!
// How do you relax after a long day of work?
Tracy: Working out is my biggest stress reliever and it clears my head. Also, spending time with my babies. When they want to spend time with me, we’ll have a movie night. I love to cook and listening to my music also helps me relax. I have this new thing where I will listen to audio books.
// What type of music do you like?
Tracy: I love all types of music — but it also depends on my mood at the time. I listen to artists like Maroon 5, and Coldplay to Ella Mai and the Migos. When I work out my go to is Lil Wayne, TI or Jeezy if I’m going hard!! I really enjoy every genre of music from pop to country music.
// What are you looking forward to most in the next 10 years?
Tracy: I’m looking forward to Tracy Nicole being a global brand. I’m looking forward to being in a position to help other people on another level. I’m looking forward to the businesses my daughters will start. I’m also looking forward to being able to write more. I have sooooo much to write about.
// Name 1 thing that you would want your supporters to take away from your brand?
Tracy: I want them to fall in love with and get inspired by the brand and the timeless nature of my clothing. My brand is not another outfit, but an experience. Once my supporters experience the brand I want them to want to stay and continue on this journey with me as the brand continuously evolves. The next journey is SIMPLE by Tracy being added to the Tracy Nicole brand.
// What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to start their own fashion business?
Tracy: Stay true to your vision because you are the only person it was given to. As long as you believe in it, that is all that matters. BUT, you have to believe in it whole heartedly and get rid of the doubt and be willing to put in the work it takes to become reality.
